I believe the hinge design has changed very slightly since the version which may have altered the fitting process but otherwise the current product looks identical. We bought these to separate rooms without closing the doors - for ventilation, light & sound to pass around our apartment - we have no stairs to protect but the instructions for fitting them to stairways seemed clear enough. The major advantage of this design is that it has an excellent range of width fittings - far more than most other products we looked at. As we live in a building with non-standard measurements these were a sure fit in the gaps we wanted to block. The gates come with a template to cut out & fix to the wall to aid alignment of the hinges & catches. Nice idea. I only used the template for the hinge side and then aligned the catches by eye, but the whole process from opening the box to having the gate fitted took me 15-20 minutes and I was in no... They are really easy to fit and adjust up, the instructions were clear and came with an easy to use template to drill the holes in the wall/door frames. Once installed they are very secure, I can't see my lad working out how to open them for a while as yet. Overall much more secure than a pressure fit gate, they swing out of the way so nothing is left in the door opening to trip over and they can also easily be removed from their hinges and reinstalled again if you only need them every now and again. Very pleased with them and will highly recommend them. Stoner "Bargain hunter" (UK) - See all my reviews    Bought this to stop my small dogs going upstairs. I found it quit easy to fit, a bit fiddly when adjusting, but I am in no way a DIY expert. For the price you really can't go wrong, it's a sturdy piece of equipment. Dogs can't get through bar spaces approx 6cm. Hope you have found this useful.
